Jasper is a marketing platform with brand controls built in. ChatGPT is a general assistant for almost any task. The right choice depends on who writes for your business, and how many people do it.
Prices and features below are as of October 2026. Check the official pages before you pay.
The short verdict
Pick Jasper if:
- You run a marketing team, and several people write for the same brand.
- You want brand voice, audiences and product facts stored in one place and applied to every draft.
- You want ready-made marketing agents for tasks such as SEO content, email and social posts.
Pick ChatGPT if:
- You work alone or with a small team, and marketing is one job among many.
- You also want help with planning, research, numbers and customer emails.
- Budget matters. ChatGPT has a free plan and paid plans from $8 a month in the US.
What Jasper is built for
Jasper describes itself as a workspace for marketing teams (jasper.ai). Its main parts, as of October 2026:
- Brand Voice. You upload up to eight samples of your writing, as text, files or links. Jasper studies the tone and style, then shows you a test draft with and without the voice so you can judge it (Brand Voice help).
- Knowledge Base. A place for product details, key messages and FAQs, which Jasper uses when it writes (Knowledge Base help).
- Agents. Ready-made agents for marketing work, such as SEO content, campaigns, email and social media.
An admin can set a default brand voice for the whole workspace. That is the main reason teams choose it: everyone starts from the same rules.
What ChatGPT is built for
ChatGPT is a general assistant. It writes, but it also explains, plans, summarises, analyses files and answers questions. For a business owner who does a bit of everything, that range is the point.
It has no brand voice feature by that name. You get a similar result with:
- Custom instructions, which apply to every chat. Paid plans allow up to 5,000 characters (custom instructions).
- Projects, which hold files and instructions for one area of work, such as marketing (Projects in ChatGPT).
The difference is that you build and maintain this yourself. The guide on how to make AI sound like you shows how.
Price
From the Jasper pricing page:
- Pro: $69 per seat a month billed monthly, or $59 a month billed yearly. It includes two brand voices, five knowledge assets and three audiences. There is a 7-day free trial.
- Business: custom pricing. It adds unlimited brand voices and knowledge, a style guide, and more advanced agents.
From the ChatGPT pricing page:
- Free, Go at $8 a month in the US, Plus at $20 a month and Pro from $100 a month.
- Business at $25 per user a month billed monthly, or $20 billed yearly, for two or more users (OpenAI's billing help).
For one person, that is $20 a month for ChatGPT Plus against $59 to $69 for Jasper Pro. For a marketing team, compare what you would spend setting up and keeping brand rules in ChatGPT against what Jasper gives you ready-made.
Brand voice: built in or self-made
Both routes need the same input from you: real samples and clear rules. Jasper stores them in a structured form and applies them by default. In ChatGPT you keep them in a file or a project and paste or attach them.
- Start with five to ten real samples of writing you like.
- Write rules you can check, such as sentence length and words you never use.
- Test the voice on one real task before you roll it out.
- Review every draft. Neither tool guarantees a draft follows every rule.
If you need a structure for the rules, use the brand voice guidelines template.
How to decide
Try both on the same three jobs: a product description, a short email and a social post. Use the Jasper trial and the ChatGPT free plan. Count how many edits each draft needs, and note how long the setup took.
