Typeform vs Google Forms for a small business

Google Forms is plain, quick, and comes with a Google account. Typeform is built to feel like a conversation and gives you more design control, but its free plan is very small. The right choice depends on how many responses you expect and how much the look of the form matters to you. Prices and limits are as of October 2026, in US dollars.

The short verdict

  • Pick Google Forms if you need a working form today, expect many responses, and want answers in a Google Sheet.
  • Pick Typeform if the form is part of how customers see your brand, such as a lead form or quiz on your website, and you are ready to pay for it.

Prices and limits

Google Forms comes with a personal Google account, and is also part of Google Workspace business plans. The Google pages checked for this post do not list a response limit.

Typeform:

  • Free: 10 responses a month across all forms, according to Typeform's help centre.
  • Basic: $39 a month, or $28 a month billed yearly. 100 responses a month, 1 user.
  • Plus: $79 a month, or $56 a month billed yearly. 1,000 responses a month, 3 users. Removes Typeform branding.
  • Business: $129 a month, or $91 a month billed yearly. 10,000 responses a month, 5 users. Adds drop-off rates and conversion tracking.

Typeform's free plan page also says it sometimes tests different prices, so you may see different plans in your account.

The differences that matter

Response limits

This is the biggest practical gap. Typeform's free plan stops at 10 responses a month. Even the Basic plan covers 100. If you expect 300 replies to a feedback survey, you would need Plus. Typeform's plan table also lists a higher maximum each month, such as 750 on Basic, above the 100 included. Check what extra responses cost before you count on that. Google Forms is not priced by the number of responses, so a busy month costs the same as a quiet one.

How the form feels

Typeform describes its forms as conversational, with logic that adapts to each answer. It offers themes and brand options, and Plus and above remove the Typeform branding. It suits forms that face customers, such as a lead form on your site. Google Forms uses a plain, familiar layout that most people have seen before.

Logic and question types

Both can change what people see based on earlier answers. Typeform's free plan includes branching, scores and calculations. Google Forms can send people to a section based on a multiple choice or dropdown answer. It has 12 question types, including file upload, linear scale, rating, grids, date and time. Its file upload question stores files in your Google Drive, and needs responders to sign in to Google.

Where the answers go

Google Forms can send responses straight into a Google Sheet. Typeform lets you download results on every plan, and connects to tools such as Google Sheets, HubSpot, Mailchimp, Slack and Zapier.

If you collect personal data, check where it is stored. Typeform's plan table lists GDPR tools on its plans, and a choice of US or EU data centre on Enterprise only. A Google Form is saved in your Google Drive, with your other files.

How to decide

  • Estimate your responses in a busy month.
  • Decide if the form is internal, or part of how customers see you.
  • Check where the answers need to go next.
  • Build the same short form in both and send it to a friend.
  • If you choose Typeform, start with the plan that covers your responses.

The questions matter more than the tool. For ready-made questions, see customer feedback survey questions and client intake form questions. Questions people ask

Is Typeform free?

It has a free plan, but as of October 2026 Typeform's help centre says it allows 10 responses a month across all your forms. Paid plans start at $39 a month, or $28 a month billed yearly, for 100 responses.

Do people need a Google account to fill in a Google Form?

Not for most questions. Google's FAQ says anyone can respond to a form. A file upload question does need responders to sign in to a Google account.

Can I move my Google Form to Typeform?

Typeform's help centre mentions an import from Google Forms. Check the result, since logic and design may need to be set up again.

Which is better for a customer survey?

For a short survey with a few dozen replies, Google Forms is usually enough. If the survey is part of your brand, or you need more than a few replies on a small budget, compare Typeform's paid plans with what you would gain.
