Google Forms is the simple choice for surveys, sign-ups and internal checklists. Jotform does more: payment fields, signatures, and long forms with many field types. Its free plan has firm monthly limits, so your volume decides a lot. Prices and limits are as of October 2026, in US dollars.
The short verdict
- Pick Google Forms if you need simple forms, want answers in a Google Sheet, and do not want to think about monthly limits.
- Pick Jotform if your form needs to take a payment, collect a signature, or accept files without asking people to sign in to Google.
Prices and limits
Google Forms comes with a personal Google account, and is part of Google Workspace business plans. The Google pages checked for this post do not list a response limit.

The differences that matter
Payments
This is the clearest gap. Jotform says it connects to more than 40 payment providers on its free plan, and adds no transaction fee of its own. You still pay your provider's normal fee. Google's list of question types does not include a payment question, so you would send people to a separate payment link.
If you take deposits or sell tickets through a form, look at the payment submission limit. On the free plan it is 10 a month. For payment fees, see Stripe vs PayPal and Stripe vs Square.
Signatures
Jotform's pricing page lists a monthly limit for signed documents on each plan: 10 on Starter, 100 on Bronze, 250 on Silver and 1,000 on Gold. Google's list of Forms question types does not include a signature question. For contracts, a dedicated tool may suit you better. See DocuSign alternatives.
File uploads
Google Forms has a file upload question that stores files in your Google Drive. Responders must sign in to a Google account to use it, which can stop some clients. Jotform's upload space depends on the plan, from 100 MB on Starter.
Limits and growth
Google Forms is not priced by responses, so it scales without a bill. Jotform counts forms, submissions and views each month. If a form gets popular, you may reach the free limit mid-month. Check your expected volume against the plan limits above before you build.
Simplicity
Google Forms has fewer options, which makes it fast to build and easy to share with your team. Jotform has more options, which helps for complex forms and takes longer to learn.
How to decide
- List what the form must do: collect answers, take payment, get a signature or receive files.
- Estimate submissions in a busy month.
- Check where the data needs to go next.
- Build a short version in both and fill it in on your phone.
- If you need HIPAA features, check which Jotform plan includes them.
