ClickUp packs a lot into every plan: tasks, docs, chat, goals and time tracking. monday.com keeps a cleaner board that you shape with your own columns. For a small team, the choice comes down to seats, plan limits and how much setup you want to do.

The short verdict

Pick ClickUp if you want many features for a low price per person, you have three or more people who want to start free, or you want docs and tasks in one tool.

Pick monday.com if you want a tool that looks like a clean table, you track many kinds of work beyond projects, and you prefer to add features as you need them.

Prices and plans

All facts below come from each vendor's pricing page, as of October 2026.

ClickUp

  • Free Forever: a free plan with no time limit. Check the page for its current storage and feature limits.
  • Paid plans: priced per user a month, cheaper when billed yearly, with more storage, views, automations and admin controls as you go up.
  • Enterprise: price on request.

ClickUp changed its plans and prices in October 2026, and different visits to its pricing page showed different plans and prices. So no ClickUp prices are quoted here. Check the live page for the plans and prices you are offered, and whether AI is included or sold on top.

monday.com work management

  • Free: up to 2 seats and up to 3 boards.
  • Basic: unlimited items and unlimited free viewers.
  • Standard: adds timeline, Gantt and calendar views, guest access, and 250 automation actions and 250 integration actions a month.
  • Pro: adds private boards, time tracking and 25,000 automation actions a month.
  • Enterprise: price on request.

monday.com prices each plan per seat, and its page says the price depends on your billing country. Paid plans start from 3 seats, and yearly billing saves 18%. The page did not show US dollars from every location when this post was checked, so open it to see the price where you are. monday.com offers a 14-day free trial of its Pro plan.

The differences that matter

Free plans

ClickUp's free plan has no member limit, but storage is 60MB in total. That fills up once you attach a few files. monday.com's free plan is for 2 seats and 3 boards. A team of three or more cannot share monday.com's free plan, so ClickUp is the one to try if you want to start free together.

Seat minimums

monday.com's paid plans start from 3 seats. ClickUp charges per user with no minimum listed. A solo founder or a pair who wants paid features will usually pay less in ClickUp.

Timelines and Gantt charts

ClickUp includes Gantt charts on its paid plans. monday.com includes timeline and Gantt views from Standard. If you plan projects week by week, check the plan you would need in each.

Automations

monday.com counts automation actions each month: 250 on Standard and 25,000 on Pro. ClickUp lists 5,000 automations a month on Business. Count how many times your automations would run in a busy month, then compare.

How much is in the box

ClickUp includes docs, chat, goals, forms and time tracking from its first paid plan. That is useful if you want one tool for everything. It also means more menus and settings to learn. monday.com starts simpler and grows with the columns and views you add.

How to decide

  • Count your people. Three or more who want to start free: try ClickUp.
  • Count your files. If you share many attachments, the 60MB free limit in ClickUp will matter.
  • Write down the automations you need and how often they would run.
  • Check monday.com's price for 3 seats or more in your currency.
  • Run the same real project in both for two weeks, with the people who will use it.

The best tool is the one your team keeps up to date. A short weekly check helps. The weekly review template and the team meeting agenda both work with either tool.
