Instantly and Smartlead do the same core job. You connect several mailboxes, upload a list, write a sequence and the tool sends it on a schedule, with warm-up included. For a small team, the choice comes down to limits, lead data and a few extras.
The short answer
Pick Smartlead if you want the lowest entry price, more contacts on the starter plan, or you run an agency with several clients.
Pick Instantly if you want the most emails on the mid plan, or you want to buy lead data and sending from the same company.
Both offer a free trial with no credit card, so you can test each with a real campaign.
Prices and limits
All figures are as of October 2026, on monthly billing, from Instantly's pricing page and Smartlead's pricing page. Both are cheaper on yearly billing.
Entry level
- Smartlead Base: $39 a month. 6,000 emails a month and 2,000 contacts.
- Instantly Growth (outreach): $47 a month. 5,000 emails a month and 1,000 uploaded contacts.
Middle level
- Smartlead Pro: $94 a month. 90,000 emails a month and 30,000 contacts.
- Instantly Hypergrowth (outreach): $97 a month. 125,000 emails a month and 25,000 uploaded contacts.
Higher levels
- Smartlead: Unlimited Smart at $174 a month and Unlimited Prime at $379 a month.
- Instantly: Light Speed at $358 a month, and Enterprise on request.
So at the entry level Smartlead gives more for less. At the middle level, Instantly sends more emails and Smartlead stores more contacts.
Mailboxes and warm-up
Both let you connect as many mailboxes as you like. Instantly lists unlimited email accounts and unlimited warm-up on its Growth and Hypergrowth plans. Smartlead's pricing page says all plans include unlimited email accounts.
Warm-up works a little differently. Smartlead's help centre places each plan in a different warm-up pool: Foundation on Base, Growth on Pro, and Premium on the Unlimited plans. Instantly's warm-up settings guide suggests starting new accounts slowly, at about 10 warm-up emails a day.
Warm-up helps, and your domain setup matters even more. See cold email warm-up tools for what it can and cannot do.
Lead data
Instantly sells lead data separately from sending. As of October 2026 it has standalone credits plans, starting at $47 a month, and bundles that combine sending and data. The cheapest bundle, Starter, is $94 a month.
Smartlead counts "verified prospect emails" in each plan. Its help centre lists them as an add-on on Base and Pro, and included on the Unlimited plans.
If you already have your own list, you may not need either data option.
Extras for agencies and teams
Smartlead offers client workspaces, and a white-label add-on at $29 a month per client workspace from the Pro plan. The help centre lists CRM access from Pro upwards. Unlimited Prime includes three client workspaces.
Instantly has an Agency bundle at $555 a month, and lists products such as a CRM and an AI reply agent. The Scale bundle includes the AI reply agent.
For a solo founder, most of these extras will not matter. For an agency, they may decide it.
How to decide
- Count your monthly volume. First emails plus follow-ups. Check which plan covers it on each tool.
- Count your contacts. Instantly limits uploaded contacts. Smartlead limits stored contacts on its two lower plans.
- Decide where your list comes from. If you need data, price it in.
- Run the same small campaign on both trials. Same list, same words, same mailboxes. Watch bounces and replies.
The tool does not write the email
Both tools send what you give them. A sequence that sounds like a template will be ignored on either one. Keep the first email short, and plan follow-ups that add something new.
Check the rules where your readers live before you send in bulk. In the US, the FTC's CAN-SPAM guide applies to business email too.
Nive is being built for the writing part of this problem: you write down how your business works once, and it drafts each email in your voice for you to review. It does not send email or find contacts, so it works next to a tool like these. Join the waitlist to get the demo first.
